Young talent from New Zealand

Posted on | July 7, 2011 | Category: Arena

Before today’s middle distance final only one person from New Zealand has done better than Angela Simpson in Junior World Championships. Tania Robinson was fifth in the 1992 Junior World Championships short distance.

“It was exiting and big to be sixth on the sprint”, Angela says.

She even made some mistakes in the sprint. “With a better race I could have been in the gold fight”, she says.

On the long she took a good 21th place. Now she runs in the A-final on the middle distance after a good qualification race where she finished seventh in her heat.

“I want to do well in the final”, Angela says, and continues “We arrived here a couple of weeks ago, so we have got enough experience of the terrain.”

Angela has started university studies at home, but she is thinking about coming to Europe for a longer time to have a better chance to train orienteering.

Angela Simpson is a very talented junior from New Zealand.
