World Ski Orienteering Championships in Japan an important milestone

Posted on | March 10, 2009 | Category: News

The World Ski Orienteering Championships took place in Hokkaido, Japan last week. This was the first time the event was held in Asia. The chairman of the IOF Ski Orienteering Commission, Markku Vauhkonen, was extremely satisfied with the championships: “The organisers did an excellent job, and the conditions in Hokkaido proved perfect for ski orienteering. We saw great performances of the athletes on very challenging courses and in demanding weather conditions, and the sprit of friendship, and fair but tough competition, was strong among the participants.”

“This week and these championships in Japan were an important milestone on our journey towards the inclusion in the Olympic Winter Games”, Markku Vauhkonen summarized.
