World MTBO Championships: Tichovska and Dallavalle both go one better today

Posted on | August 19, 2015 | Category: News

Silver yesterday, gold today; that is the story in both the women’s and men’s classes of the Sprint race, where home athlete Martina Tichovska and the Italian Luca Dallavalle triumphed by 55 and 4 seconds respectively.

Two seasoned riders, Susanna Laurila and Cecilia Thomasson, took silver and bronze in the women’s race. Tichovska won by a big margin for a Sprint, and then times were close. Yesterday’s winner Gaelle Barlet, France was fifth today.

Czech supporters had plenty to celebrate, first with Tichovska’s victory and then for Vojtech Stransky who took the silver medal behind Dallavalle. Bronze medalist in the men’s race was Lauri Malsroos, Estonia, 20 seconds down on the winner’s time.

In the Junior WMTBO Championships Sprint, home athlete Veronika Kubinova successfully retained the title she won last year by 4 seconds over Lou Denaix, France, who took her second silver medal of the Championships. The men’s Sprint saw a convincing 21-second victory by the Australian Angus Robinson, with yesterday’s champion and last year’s Sprint champion Oskar Sandberg, Sweden in third place.

Thursday is a rest day, and on Friday the Long Distance race will be held.
