Posted on | August 19, 2010 | Category: News

The CISM World Military Orienteering Championships take place in Kongsberg, Norway this week. Thierry Gueorgiou took revenge after the World Orienteering Championships by winning both middle and long distance at the CISM championships. Wojciech Kowalski from Poland won silver on the middle distance. The reigining World Orienteering middle distance Champion Carl Waaler Kaas did not have the best day on Tuesday and finished 8th on middle distance. On long distance he was second.

In the women’s class, Aija Skrastina from Latvia was unbeatable in both middle and long distance events. Russia’s Julia Novikova took bronze on middle distance and silver on long distance.

Altogether 24 nations participate in the CISM World Military Orienteering Championships. Most participants come from well-known orienteering countries, but also United Arab Emirates, currently not an IOF member, has sent a team of seven competitors.
