World Masters travel to Australia in October

Posted on | July 24, 2009 | Category: News

The World Masters Orienteering Championships 2009 will be staged as part of the World Masters Games in Sydney, Australia. So far, the orienteering organisers have got entries from 27 countries, but there is still one week to go until the entry deadline of 31 July.

The World Masters Games represent a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the participants to have an Olympic style experience. Many of the 28 sports competitions are taking place at venues where sport’s biggest names won Olympic medals.

The social program is jam packed with activities, including what promises to be an unforgettable Opening Ceremony at Sydney Olympic Park, a Closing Ceremony in the heart of the city, and daily events around Sydney.

World Masters Orienteering Championships will include five competitions on four different maps: sprint distance on 10–11 October and long distance on 14, 15 and 17 October. The seasons in Australia are the reverse of the northern hemisphere, which means that the WMOC is being held in late spring in Australia. The average daily temperature in October is 18°C.

Entries close for the World Masters Orienteering Championships on July 31st. The closing date for entry to the Public events is 28 August. For further information, please visit the organisers’ homepage.
