World Masters Orienteering Championships 2011

Next year the World Masters will travel to Hungary, where the World Masters Orienteering Championships 2011 will be held in the city of Pécs in July. The early-bird entry deadline is 31 October 2010.

Pécs is the fifth largest city of Hungary, located on the slopes of the Mecsek mountains in the south-west of the country, close to its border with Croatia. In 2010 Pécs was selected to the European Capital of Culture. The city has been refurbished and redesigned this year: Modern design meets historical monuments, and the centre is now more beautiful than ever. The World Masters sprint qualification race will take place in the historic city centre of Pécs.

The terrains for long distance are unique in Hungary. The carst region around Pécs offers difficult technical tasks and very good runability. The competitors will also get to navigate through sometimes gigantic sinkholes in a mostly rock-free and clean forest with good visibility. Although the terrains are unique, there is something traditional at the 2011 World Masters, too: Timo Teinilä will be the speaker at the events, together with Árpád Kocsik from Hungary.

The Organising Committee is expecting 4500-5000 entries altogether. The early-bird deadline is 31 October 2010, but entries are possible with normal price until 10 May 2011. World Masters Championships take place 1-8 July 2011.
