Posted on | July 25, 2015 | Category: News

More than 3,000 competitors from 38 nations have gathered in Gothenburg, Sweden for this year’s World Masters Orienteering Championships (WMOC), which take place throughout the coming week.

Three thousand, two hundred and sixteen, to be precise. The biggest number from one country, not surprisingly Sweden with 646 participants, is quite closely matched by Finland with 626. Norway is the third biggest with 384. At the other end of the scale, there is one competitor from each of Ireland, Moldova and South Africa.

The biggest men’s class is M65 with 385 taking part, and the biggest women’s is W65 with 212.

There are 5 days of competition – two with Sprint and three over Long Distance. The Sprint Qualification and Final on Sunday and Monday both take place in Eriksberg, a down-town area of Gothenburg north of the river. The two qualification races at Long Distance are on Wednesday and Thursday at Delsjön in the outskirts of Gothenburg, and the Long Distance Final is on Saturday at Skatås.
