Judith Wyder, Switzerland and Jonas Leandersson, Sweden were the winners of the final in the World Cup Sprint in Imatra, Finland today, in a race with very tight margins – 2 seconds in the women’s race and 4 seconds in the men’s. Both are current European Champions and both won their qualification races this morning.

Wyder was 2 seconds quicker on the course today than Maja Alm, Denmark. There was then a 17-second gap to third place, which was unusually shared between three athletes – Tove Alexandersson and Helena Jansson, Sweden and Julia Gross, Switzerland.

In the men’s race Leandersson, who like Judith Wyder was last starter after winning the qualification race this morning (where the forty qualifyers for the men’s final were all within 1 minute of the winner!) was 4 seconds quicker in the final than Daniel Hubmann, Switzerland, with a fine third place for Belgium’s Yannick Michiels.

Tomorrow there is a Mixed Sprint Relay, similar to that to be held for the first time at the World Championships in Italy next month. This is not an official World Cup race.
