Minna Kauppi ran to victory on home ground today in the second World Cup race of the season in Salo, Finland. The sprint, also the last race of the Nordic Open Championships, was a close affair with less than 20 seconds separating first from fourth place. The Norwegians Anne Margrethe Hausken and Marianne Andersen finished 8 and 10 seconds respectively down on Kauppi’s time, in second and third places.

Daniel Hubmann, Switzerland, last year’s overall winner of the World Cup, won the men’s race by 9 seconds ahead of Andrey Khramov, Russia. There was a gap of 28 seconds from Khramov’s time down to third-placed Thierry Gueorgiou, France. Switzerland impressed with three runners in the first six; Tero Föhr, Finland in sixth place was the highest-placed Scandinavian.
