Triple Gold for Vlasova and Khrennikov

Posted on | March 1, 2007 | Category: News

The two Russian stars Tatiana Vlasova and Eduard Khrennikov completed a clean sweep of the individual gold medals with victories in the middle distance race in the World Championships in Ski Orienteering.

Vlasova was 58 seconds quicker than Liisa Anttila, Finland who missed out on gold in the long distance race because of a missing control punch. Bronze medallist in the women’s race was Russia’s Natalya Tomilova, a further 29 seconds down on the winner.

Staffan Tunis, Finland, had an exceptionally good race but he could not quite match Eduard Khrennikov’s time, finishing 15 seconds slower to take the silver medal. Kirill Vaselov, Russia was the bronze medallist with a time 40 seconds slower than the winner.

Russia continued its dominance of the Championships, taking seven of the twelve top placings. It will be a major surprise if Russia fails to get two sets of gold medals in the final race, the relay.
