The first round of this year’s World Cup in orienteering will take place from 29 April to 3 May 2005. The events will be based at Guildford, some 30 km to the south-west of London, Great Britain. The deadline for submitting the Team Registration Forms and the Accommodation Forms is 1 February.

The programme of the first World Cup round will provide five days of exciting competitions for the world elite orienteers. Except for the sprint competitions, all the events will be held in typical South East England terrain. The runnability is good and the best athletes are expected to be running at a speed of approx. 5 minutes per kilometre.

The sprint terrains are quite different in nature. The venue of the sprint qualification race is the Guildford University campus comprising a mix of complex buildings and parkland, all on a slope with a height difference of 30 metres. The sprint final will be held at Battersea Park, a flat, ornamental city park with many man-made features, bordering the south bank of the River Thames.

The ‘Surrey Five-O’ public events will run in parallel with the World Cup competitions. The public events will take place each day immediately after the World Cup races providing the participants with the possibility to compare themselves with the world’s elite.

World Cup, 1st round:

Friday 29th April: Opening Ceremony, Sprint Qualification
Saturday 30th April: Relay
Sunday 1st May: Long Distance
Monday 2nd May: Sprint Final
Tuesday 3rd May: Middle Distance
