As the deadline for the athlete entries to The World Games is approaching, the federations have started to select their teams. Russia was the first country to nominate its runners to Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei, where The World Games take place in mid-July. The strong Russian team is headed by the reigning sprint world champion Andrey Khramov, who together with his World Games teammates Valentin Novikov and Dmitriy Tsvetkov also won silver in the World Championships relay last year. Julia Novikova and Galina Vinogradova, representing Russia in the women’s competition, are as well relay silver medallists from the 2008 World Orienteering Championships.

The World Games is an international multi-sport event held every fourth year under the auspices of the International World Games Association (IWGA) and under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). More than 5000 athletes are expected to participate in the competitions that will take place in 24 different venues in Kaohsiung and Kaohsiung County. The World Games in Kaohsiung are the 8th overall and the third to include orienteering. Orienteering has been allocated 80 places for athletes: 40 women and 40 men. The orienteering programme includes a sprint race and a middle distance event, and a mixed-team relay for teams of two men and two women.
