Swiss dominance in Sprint qualification

Posted on | April 12, 2014 | Category: News

Swiss runners won four out of the six Sprint qualifying heats in the European Championships run today, and also took two second places in the women’s heats by just 2 seconds in each case.

Rahel Friederich, Judith Wyder, Martin Hubmann and Matthias Kyburz were heat winners with the biggest win that of Kyburz, 18 seconds faster than any other in his heat. The other heat winners today were Karolin Ohlsson, Sweden and Jan Procházka, CzechRepublic.

Kiril Nikolov, Bulgaria was – as yesterday – below the 17th place cut-off point for qualification. He was below the line in the Middle qualification too, but as with all other runners he now has the opportunity to run in the Middle final. Another well-known name missing the cut was Inga Dambe, Latvia, and Russia’s men had an off-day with only Andrey Khramov qualifying. Times were very close and in the men’s heats runners missed the final by 1 second in each of the three races.

Tomorrow all activities take place in the Event Centre town Palmela. The TempO qualification in the European TrailO Championships is in the morning, the Opening Ceremony is at 15.00 local time and the Sprint Finals start at 16.30 (women) and 17.45 (men).
