Successful “Olympic Games for Czech Children”

Altogether 4300 participants from 20 different sports and 14 different Czech regions took part in “the 5th Summer Olympic Games for Czech Children” multisport event in Olomouc. For the first time also orienteering was included in these Games and IOF Senior Vice President, Marcel Schiess, was witnessing the event.

54 girls and 54 boys of ages between 12 to 15 years competed in three races: sprint, mixed sprint relay and middle distance. “We decided to use this The World Games format because all three races are particularly visible for the public and media. This proved to be a good decision as orienteering was very visible in these Games. Mr. Milan Jirasek, Chair of Czech Olympic Committee, was present during the sprint race. Also, Czech national team runners, Dana Brozkova and Tomas Dlabaja, discussed with children around the theme How to be good in orienteering at an adult age?”, summarises Dusan Vystavel, Event Director and member of IOF Foot Orienteering Commission.

“We are very glad that Marcel Schiess personally accepted our invitation. Only orienteering had an international representative at these Games. This will be a big advantage for us and a good starting point for the discussion on the program of the next Games in Zlin region in June 2013”, says Jiri Subrt, Secretary General of the Czech Orienteering Federation. “And as we also had good luck with the weather, all participants were very satisfied with this event – “simply perfect” said the runners and their coaches – which is the best award the organisers could get. It was hard work and not only for the last 14 days. I am very tired but very happy at the same time”, concluded Vystavel.
