The 42-year-old Russian Eduard Khrennikov heads the standings at the end of the first round of the 2015-2016 IOF Ski Orienteering World Cup, a situation he has been used to many times over the past 15 years; he has won the World Cup overall four times, first in the year 2000.

Seven times a World Champion, he doesn’t train anything like the extent he used to, but keeps himself very fit and is an expert in ‘psychological preparation’, and bringing out the best in himself when it matters. Third, fourth and finally first place in the three races puts him 5 points ahead of Sweden’s Ulrik Nordberg in the standings with Erik Rost, also Sweden, third.

Current World Cup Leader Tove Alexandersson

Tove Alexandersson of Sweden, with two victories and a sixth place to her credit, leads the women’s rankings by 3 points in front of Mariya Kechkina, Russia, who was placed second in all three races. The winner of the Sprint, Russia’s Tatyana Oborina, holds third position in the standings.

The next round of the IOF Ski Orienteering World Cup takes place in the Ore Mountains in Germany, close to the border with the Czech Republic, in the period 22-29 January. The Event Centre is the ski resort Oberwiesenthal.
