On another good day for skiing but with some mist and dark cloud, Erik Rost brought SWE 2 to the changeover in the lead after the first leg, with SWE 1 in fourth place. Sally Koskela had a fine race to bring FIN 1 into the lead by 8 seconds after leg 2. It was then, taking over 15 seconds down on the lead, that Ulrik Nordberg stepped up a gear on his second outing and came to the changeover just 1 second down.

Tove Alexandersson also put her foot harder on the pedal from that point on and led by 39 seconds after leg 4. Thereafter it was plain sailing for the Swedish team. Finland kept the strong Russian teams at bay, however, and at the end of a close race between Russia 1 and Russia 2, it was the second team that finished ahead by 9 seconds, Mariya Kechkina pulling up one place on the final leg.
This first round of the World Cup continues tomorrow with a Middle Distance race. IOF LiveCenter is showing some fine pictures with informative commentary – log on and follow all the action direct!
