Ski Orienteering World Cup on three continents

This winter’s World Cup in Ski Orienteering includes four rounds in four countries: USA, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Sweden. Three of the rounds are at the same time IOF Regional Championships. North American Championships will be held in January in the United States, European Championships in February in Ukraine and Asian Championships in February-March in Kazakhstan.

The World Cup will kick off in Bear Valley and Lake Tahoe, California, USA, on January 28, 2012. The first World Cup round includes four events: Long distance mass-start, Sprint, Middle distance and Mixed Sprint Relay. This is the first time an IOF Ski Orienteering Event will be organised in North America.

The second round takes place in conjunction with the European Championships in Sumy, Ukraine. At the same time both juniors and masters compete in their own championships at the same venue. The World Cup events include Sprint, Mixed Sprint Relay, Middle distance and Relay.

From Ukraine there is a charter flight to the Asian Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan; Ski Orienteering World Cup Round 3. This is the Pre-World Championships round, as Kazakhstan will organise World Ski Orienteering Championships 2013. In Kazakhstan the athletes compete in Middle distance, Long distance mass-start, Sprint and Mixed Sprint Relay.

The Final Round takes place in Boden, Sweden, 21-25 March 2012. The three first events on the final round are Middle distance, Sprint and Relay. The World Cup in Ski Orienteering concludes on 25 March with Ultra long distance, mass-start.
