First overall winners of the Sprint World Cup, a new competition this year with the best five counting out of six events, are Olga Novikova, Kazakhstan and Eduard Khrennikov, Russia, the former by just 2 points and the latter by the much bigger margin of 38. Neither athlete, however, was victorious in the races today.

Russia’s Natalya Tomilova triumphed in the women’s race with a very impressive 32 second gap down to Marte Reenaas, Norway. Olga Novikova was third today, a further 22 seconds down. Josefine Engström, the leader in the standings before today and competing on home terrain, could only manage 6th place, 1½ minutes down on the winner’s time.
