Ski Orienteering World Cup: Norwegian triumph in men’s Sprint

One second was the margin for Lars Moholdt, Norway in victory over Andrey Lamov, Russia in the men’s Sprint, the final competition of the World Cup first round at Ylläs, Finland. In the women’s class it was a clean sweep in all individual distances for Russia’s Tatyana Rvacheva; her win today was by two seconds ahead of Tove Alexandersson, Sweden.

Norway achieved three podium placings in the men’s race over 4.2 km. Øyvind Watterdal was third at the finish after leading by 5 seconds at the intermediate timing point after 2.5 km, and Hans Jørgen Kvåle was fifth. World Champion Peter Arnesson finished in fourth place today.

Tatyana Rvacheva’s excellent week continued, but she was challenged closely by Tove Alexandersson in overall time and early in the race by her compatriot Yuliya Tarasenko who was fastest after 1.9 km on the 3.4 km course. Hana Hancikova, Czech Republic had an outstanding race to finish third.
