IOF Ski Orienteering World Cup: emphatic Middle Distance victories for Alexandersson and Lamov

Posted on | November 29, 2015 | Category: News

Tove Alexandersson, Sweden was in supreme form today, completing the Middle race a whole 3 minutes faster than the Russian athlete Mariya Kechkina. In the men’s race, Andrey Lamov, Russia enjoyed a convincing win by 1.03 over Bulgarian Stanimir Belomazhev.

Both Alexandersson and Lamov overcame relatively disappointing performances in the Sprint race on Friday. In quite bright weather, Alexandersson was fastest overall throughout the course, making only very minor mistakes in passing through a complex network of ski tracks in the forested terrain at Ylläs, Finland. It meant second place as on Friday for Kechkina, whose time throughout was closely matched by home athlete Sonja Moersky. Kechkina finished strongly and was 31 seconds faster at the end.

Andrey Lamov was fastest overall from the second control onwards. IOF World Rankings leader Belomazhev, showing no ill effects from his fall at the beginning of the Sprint Relay, had a slowish start but was third or second from control 5 onwards. Sweden’s Erik Rost took third place, 30 seconds slower than Belomazhev. Five nations were represented amongst the top six in the results, only Russia having two athletes in this group.
