Ski Orienteering World Cup: double Swedish success in Long distance

Posted on | January 26, 2014 | Category: News

It was Sweden first and second in both the women’s and men’s races over Long distance, the final races of this World Cup round. Winners were Tove Alexandersson by 1.08 and Erik Rost by 25 seconds.

This was a testing two-lap race at the end of a long series of races. Tatyana Rvacheva, Russia, who has had so much success this week, made an early 2-minute mistake and was ninth at the end of the first lap, at which point Josefine Engström was the fastest by 14 seconds with Tove Alexandersson second. Alexandersson’s superior fitness and technique came to the fore on the second half of the course, and at the finish Engström was well down in time. Rvacheva came up to third place in the final results, 2.19 down on the winner.

Norway’s Lars Hol Moholt was fastest by 5 seconds after the first lap of the men’s race, with Peter Arnesson second. Eventual winner Erik Rost was fourth, 22 seconds slower than Moholt. Andreas Holmberg, third after the first lap, kept his form to finish second, with Moholt just 5 seconds slower in third place.
