Russia’s day at the World Championships

The Russian team had only won one gold medal at the World Ski Orienteering Championships in Kazakhstan until now, but today they showed what they can do at their best. The result: two out of two gold medals to Russia.

In the women’s class, Russia had a comfortable lead from start to finish, whereas the competition in the men’s class was much tighter. At the end, Russia’s Andrei Lamov was able to secure the gold medal to Russia 25 seconds before Sweden and Finland. Sweden’s Peter Arnesson and Finland’s Staffan Tunis founght hard to the very end, and Arnesson crossed the finish line only 0,1 seconds before Tunis. Norway had problems with broken skis and finished fourth.

The World Ski Orienteering Championships conclude with long distance race tomorrow, Sunday.
