While the global orienteering community is focusing its efforts on the 2017 World Games in Poland; preparations for the 2021 World Games to be held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA have begun.  On 16 April, Orienteering USA Executive Director Glen Schorr met with leaders of the 2021 World Games Organizing Committee as well as leaders of Birmingham’s Vulcan Orienteering Club.

“We had a great day of discussions,” said Schorr. “Birmingham offers an array of both forest and urban setting for orienteering, including Oak Mountain State Park (20 minutes from downtown) and the University of Alabama/Birmingham campus (located in downtown Birmingham). While we have a lot of work to do, the club is extremely enthusiastic.”

Glen Schorr was pleased with the meetings with the local organisers of The World Games 2021.

This will be the first world foot orienteering championship event held in the United States since the 1997 World Veterans Championships and will be concurrent with the 50th anniversary of the founding of the United States Orienteering Federation, now Orienteering USA.
