Ojanaho had to handle pain

Olli Ojanaho won his second gold at JWOC, after having extra challenges during this last individual race in Rauland in Norway.

“Great to get one more gold”, the Finn smiles. The 18-year-old athlete again ran an impressive race, but made some mistakes. “The Middle Final was a much better race”, he says.

In the Long, the Finn from Rovaniemi had to handle more than the navigation and hard physical running. “After about one-third of the race I got pain in my stomach. That had some influence on both my orienteering and running”, he says.

The men had a course of 10.7 kilometres. 24 flags had to be visited from Start to Finish.

– How was the Norwegian terrain, with a lot of marshes, compared to what you are used to?

“I am from northern Finland so we have terrain that’s a bit similar. I have also been to two training camps her in Rauland. The first was in the autumn last year, and there was also one camp about three weeks ago, so I’ve got practised in this kind of terrain”.

– What’s the goal for the Relay? Isn’t it some years since the last Finnish men’s gold at JWOC?

“That we all three in the team run clean and good races”.

The Relay is the last competition in the championships.
