Newcomers on the way

Jerker Lysell held the leading time for a very considerable period in the Sprint. And Tessa Hill was a big British surprise in the women’s race.

The difference between winner Daniel Hubmann and the Swede in second place was just 5 seconds. “I am satisfied”, says the fast Swede.

Was it revenge after the World Championships, when you almost had a very good race but had overlooked one control?

“No, I wouldn’t say so. I had a silver time, but it is also gold that counts”, says the Swede.

Among the women there were a lot of the well-known stars among the best, but the person who showed almost the greatest joy at the prize-giving was a newcomer. 24-year-old Tessa Hill from Great Britain was just 14 seconds after winner Kauppi.

For Lysell the World Championships in Lausanne next year is now the big goal. He will be stronger and hopes to run a lot of races. “I want to take part in sprint, long and relay”, he says.

Jerker Lysell was second in the final World Cup race. Daniel Hubmann won, Matthias Kyburz was third.
