At last week’s council meeting, it was agreed to appoint Michel Ediar (FRA), Robert Dredge (GBR) and Jan Exner (CZE) as members of the recently formed IOF Ethics Commission.

At the IOF General Assembly in Strömstad, it was decided to establish an IOF Code of Ethics, accompanied by an independent Ethics Panel. The IOF Ethics Panel of up to five persons will be elected in two years’ time, at the General Assembly in 2018. Until that time, the Council have appointed an Ethics Commission with the same remit as the Ethics Panel.

Topics covered by the Code of Ethics include good governance, for example delegation of authority and rights of signature, as well as conflicts of interest, compliance and whistle-blowing.

The IOF Council will have ownership of the new Code of Ethics, which means that they will perform content and compliance reviews in all areas. On the other hand, the Ethics Commission and after the General Assembly 2018 the IOF Ethics Panel will be responsible for investigating any possible violation reported under the new Code of Ethics.

Michel Ediar from France, Robert Dredge from Great Britain and Jan Exner from the Czech Republic were appointed members of the Ethics Commission by the IOF Council at their meeting in Aarau, Switzerland in connection with the final World Cup round. The IOF Council still aim to recruit two further candidates, of which at least one female, and that these should primarily be recruited externally.

The new Code of Ethics is published on the IOF Website, and can be found here.
