JWOC kicks off with the longest Long distance in JWOC history

The Junior World Orienteering Championships start on Monday in Kecskemét, Hungary. Junior athletes from all over the world will compete in the challenging Hungarian terrain.

The Junior World Orienteering Championships kick off with the Long Distance the 9th July. The diverse and detailed Long Distance terrain will definitely be a challenge for the athletes. Temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius are expected the whole week and will affect especially during the long Long Distance day. This Long Distance race will be the longest in JWOC history (15,0 km for men, 10,2 km for women).

Middle distance terrain looks challenging as well, with sand hills covered by dense junipers:

Athletes from 36 nations will participate in the championships. You can find the list of nations in IOF Eventor. This is the second time JWOC takes place in Hungary. Last time was 2001 (Miskolc). This is the first IOF high level event in this part (Great Hungarian Plain) of Hungary.
