A new record has been set for the number of medals won by a single person at the Junior World Championships. Ida Bobach won gold for the second day in succession in today’s long distance race, and now has ten medals in all, six of them gold, overtaking the record previously held by Olav Lundanes, Norway and Minna Kauppi, Finland. Ida’s compatriot Emma Klingenberg won her second silver medal of these Championships.

Ida won comfortably, finishing 1.28 quicker than Emma. Third was the very experienced Swede Tove Alexandersson, a further 46 seconds down.

The men’s race was won by the Norwegian Yngve Skogstad, his first medal at this level. His victory was by a convincing margin too – 1.34 ahead of the Austrian Robert Merl. The sprint gold medallist Lucas Basset, France, took the bronze medal today, 13 seconds slower than Merl.

Tuesday is a rest day; the middle distance qualification races are on Wednesday and the middle distance final is on Thursday.
