Helena Jansson: “I hadn’t believed in victory”

Posted on | October 2, 2011 | Category: Arena

In June Helena Jansson had to think about all kinds of things not connected with running, but she succeeded at the World Championships (WOC) and was the woman on the highest step of the podium in the prize-giving ceremony for the World Cup overall.

“In June I hadn’t at all expected that it would end like this here. It’s fantastic! I am so happy”, smiles Helena. In July she made very good preparations before WOC, but didn’t reach her best level ever. Even so it was an incredible week for her, with a medal on every distance and gold at middle distance.

Before the final races in the World Cup Annika Billstam had set up a huge gap, but she hadn’t the speed yesterday and made a huge mistake in the Sprint race today, where she finished 38th. Helena was third in the Sprint, ten seconds after Minna Kauppi. On her hand she had written “Fokus 17” and drawn an orienteering flag. With this she hoped to be in good form all the way. “Even though it was some small thing, it really was a good race”, she says.
