Helena Jansson and Martin Regborn head World Cup standings

With three of the ten individual races completed, both women’s and men’s leaders are from Sweden, the most successful nation in the first round with three athletes in the top six in both lists of standings.

Following her win at Middle Distance and second place in the Long, Jansson leads the women’s standings by six points from her team-mate Tove Alexandersson, winner of the  Long, with Maja Alm DEN holding third place a further seven points down. There is then a 30-point gap down to fourth place, held by Natalia Gemperle RUS.

Martin Regborn’s win in the Middle race and fourth place in the Sprint, plus eighth in the chasing start Long race, give him an 18-point lead in the standings over his nearest challenger, Matthias Kyburz SUI. Emil Svensk SWE takes third place with 16 points fewer than Kyburz. After the first six, there is very tight competition with six athletes within a 15-point band.

The next competitions counting for individual World Cup points are the three World Championships finals in Estonia at the beginning of July. World Cup Rounds 3 and 4 will be held in Latvia (late August) and Switzerland (end of September).
