Good results for Judith Wyder

Posted on | September 2, 2012 | Category: Arena

Earlier this year Judith Wyder became a World Champion in the Relay. Today she was amongst the three best in a World Cup race for the third time. The Swiss athlete is also managing a full time job – and injuries.

“Well, it’s not so good with the injuries”, Judith says. She was second on the tough Middle Distance at Holmenkollen in Oslo today. Earlier she has been among the top three both in Switzerland and at last year’s WOC in France at Middle Distance, but the top place is still missing.

A good team

– When are you going to take first place?

“I can’t say that”, she smiles.

 – Simone is impossible to beat?

“It’s not easy, but it isn’t impossible, but I am not thinking about beating her. I am thinking about doing the best I can do”.

In the Middle Distance there was only 79 seconds between the two best from Switzerland. They also train together, and there are a lot of good and tough training sessions in the national team. Judith also lives just half an hour from Bern, where there is a national centre for orienteering with regular training.

Challenging days

Until October Judith is working full-time, doing her final year of getting experience in her physiotherapist education. “We are in tough times, and I hope I can get full-time work. I want to be able to work”, she says.

There are a couple of reasons for her desire to work. She wants to have something outside sport, and sport is also a bit of a risky business. This year she has been struggling with a ‘runner’s knee’ for some months, and has had to do other types of training.

Liked the course

Judith enjoyed the view over the whole of Oslo from the start and also enjoyed the terrain. It wasn’t at all as green as she had expected before the start. “In the end there was a lot of route choice and it was possible to avoid the ‘green’ forest”, she says.
