Gold yesterday – looking forward to the next race

In the individual races at the Junior World Orienteering Championships in Poland Tove Alexandersson finished fourth, third and second, but in the relay it was again time for a golden moment for the Swede.

“Was I looking for a payback? Yes, I really wanted to do well”, smiles Tove.
After good legs by Helena Karlsson and Linnea Martinsson Tove started the last leg with a gap of just over one minute to the following teams.
“I ran very carefully. When I was a bit unsure I took it careful to get full contact with the map again”, Tove says.

Her race was incredible good. In the end the gap to the second best team was more than six minutes!

The favourite Denmark was a bit behind after the first leg. Ita Klingenberg made a big mistake, but with good races by Emma Klingenberg and Ida Bobach, who still was almost one minute slower than Tove Alexandersson, the Danes were able to take home the bronze medal.

The fight for the places 2-4 was very tight. In the finish the time difference between these teams was 16 seconds. The best of them was Czech Republic followed by Denmark and Switzerland.

For the winning last leg runner Tove Alexandersson this was one more gold to her collection: she has eight gold medals from orienteering and ski orienteering, when counting both Junior World Championships and senior World Championships. In orienteering she has won a gold in three Junior World Championships in a row. In ski orienteering she won two gold at the Junior World Championships last winter and one at the senior World Championships.

Are you a bit tired now after all your great races and performances?
“Oh, not at all. I am really looking forward to what is coming up”, she says.
And what is coming up might be the senior World Championships in France in August. Tove is the first reserve, but she will be on site ready to run if needed.
