Fourth gold for Lundanes

Olav Lundanes took his second gold of the championships and his first on the middle distance. “I am seen a bit as a long distance runner and it was really nice to win”, he says.

The Norwegian had a very challenging goal before the championship: a medal in every distance. He has achieved that so far. From silver in the sprint it has it continued with gold in both long and middle. On the middle he made a little mistake at the beginning of the race and he was only three seconds in the lead when he started the last part of the race. “I trusted I could go well at the end of the race”, he says.

He ended up with a difference of 44 seconds to number two, the Swede Petter Eriksson. Martin Hubmann from Switzerland took bronze.

In Switzerland two years ago Lundanes won golds in long and relay. Tomorrow the relay is the last event in the championships in Australia.

“We have a strong team, but nothing is promised us in advance. We really have to do well. There are a lot of strong teams in the race”, says the Norwegian.
