Extensive TV coverage from Ski Orienteering World Cup in Romania

Posted on | March 8, 2010 | Category: News

The organizers of third World Cup round and European Championships in ski orienteering took great efforts to make the sport visible both in Romania and abroad.

– The long distance competition was broadcast live on TV in Romania, Hungary and Poland; the other competitions in Romania and Hungary, Klaus Csucs says. He and his father Andras Csucs were the event directors of the World Winter Week in ski orienteering in Miercurea Ciuc in Romania. In addition to the TV viewers approximately 4000 to 6000 people followed the competitions live online.

With several competitions and some extra challenges with weather conditions the week was tough for the event directors and the 50 other main organizers, but the organizers managed to stay incredible service-minded and hospitable. It’s really possible to learn and get inspiration from how the competitors were taken care of in Romania.

–I still feel very tired after the week. I’m also still angry because of the problems we had during the week, but I hope that in some weeks I’ll only remember the good things and be much happier, Klaus says.

Great visibility for ski orienteering

With the opening and price giving ceremonies in a historical castle and big boards around the town the World Winter Week was very visible in Miercurea Ciuc and made ski orienteering much better known in both the city and the region.

–We have got many comments from inhabitants of Miercurea Ciuc. They were very impressed by the event: so many participants, so many countries and such an opening ceremony. We organized buses for spectators every day but unfortunately the weather was not the best for them, Klaus says.

Less time for sporting this winter

Klaus is at the moment on 95th position in the World Cup, even if he has spent almost all of his time organising the events. There hasn’t been much time for active sport and that is why he will not take part in the ski orienteering World Cup Final in Sweden next week. –I have had to cancel my participation in the World Cup round in Sweden. I’m not in World Cup shape and it would be too expensive for me to travel there just to participate, he says.

At the moment he is in Helsinki visiting his girlfriend who is an exchange student in Finland this spring. – Here I can also do some skiing. Since I had almost no time to ski this winter the days spent here in Finland are very relaxing for me, he says.

In the spring Klaus will concentrate on his studies and exams. He also plans to sport more. – My girlfriend and I are planning to move to Sweden this summer to orienteer and ski orienteer more. Next year the European Championships will take place in Norway and the World Championships in Sweden. I will be back there, Klaus smiles.
