Two years ago Emily Kemp became the first Canadian with a medal in the Junior World Championships. This year she is aiming for a new personal best as a senior, and an important decision is on the way.

The 22-year-old Canadian is currently taking part in the World Cup in Portugal. Today she qualified for the Long distance final with 12th place in one of the three heats. 17 qualified from each heat. “These are the only World Cup races I will take part in before the World Championships, so it’s good preparation for the Championships in Italy”, she says.

Emily is currently living and studying in St. Etienne. “In June I will finish my studies and I then have to decide where to live”.

– And it will be where?

“In Europe”.

– Because of orienteering?

In Portugal she hopes to do well, but she wants to be in her best shape at the beginning of July. “Last year I was 25th and 26th in the Middle and Long distance finals and I was satisfied with what I did. This year I want to perform at my very best”, she says.

It’s looking good for a step forward for Emily; she has had a long period of very good training.
