Deciding moments – the World Cup final 2015

Posted on | September 28, 2015 | Category: News

All eyes in the orienteering world will be focused on Arosa Switzerland this coming weekend for the 2015 World Cup Final. A long distance race on Friday October 2nd and a middle distance race on Saturday October 3rd will decide the women’s and men’s individual World Cup titles, and a sprint relay on Sunday October 4th will decide the Sprint Relay World Cup.

150 athletes from 23 nations participate in the events this weekend hopeful to pick up World Cup points and improve their overall position. With  double points to be awarded in the middle race on Saturday the battle for the top positions is still open. Among the women Tove Alexandersson (SWE) leads ahead of Ida Bobach (DEN) going into the final weekend. Both have had trouble with injuries in the aftermath of the World Orienteering Championships but are entered and planning to compete for the overall title. Among the men, the question will be if anyone can make inroads on Daniel Hubmann’s (SUI) commanding lead.

In the Sprint Relay World Cup, Denmark is the current leader ahead of Sweden, and it would seem most likely that these 2 fight for the title. But 6 nations still have a theoretical chance of winning and of course many will want to improve their position in the final league table.

Live coverage with live streaming and GPS tracking will be available  via IOF LiveCenter and on the organisers homepage. Note the TV broadcast will also be seen live in certain countries.
