The first relay event in the World Cup in Ski Orienteering ended with convincing wins for Finland’s women and Sweden’s men. Both teams came into the finish 2 minutes and 5 seconds ahead of their nearest rivals.
The Finnish women’s team was Marttiina Joensuu, Liisa Anttila and Hannele Valkonen. Russia’s first and second teams finished in close succession to take second and third places in the race, with Sweden’s first team coming in fourth.
In the men’s race Sweden led throughout, and by the end Johan Granath, Erik Rost and Peter Arnesson had established a good distance from second-placed Finland 1. There was a sprint finish for 3rd, 4th and 5th positions with the three teams – Sweden 2, Russia 1 and Russia 2 – finishing just 6 seconds apart.
