It is with great sadness that the IOF has learned of the death of the former IOF President Bengt Saltin (SWE), at the age of 79.
Bengt Saltin was elected IOF President in 1982, and back then his tasks were three-fold: to improve and secure better economy base for IOF, to establish a full-time secretariat and to make a strategic long-term plan for the IOF. All these were accomplished during his 6 years as President. Later on, Saltin worked in the position of IOF Medical Commission chair.
Bengt Saltin was world-recognised authority in sports doping matters, and he worked for several international federations during the past decades. When the IOF turned 50 years in 2011, he took part in the celebrations organised in conjunction with the World Orienteering Championships in France.
Together with other IOF Presidents at the 50 years celebration: Åke Jacobson (IOF President 2004-2012), Bengt Saltin (1982-1988), Heinz Tschudin (1988-1994) and Sue Harvey (1994-2004).
