Maja Alm: “I know that the only way to do it [to win] is to keep focusing on myself. I can’t just run them in by speed – I need to do it with good orienteering technique. … It’s always good to do it together with the team. It’s wonderful”


27/07/2017 || The World Games Sprint Relay: Denmark back on winning form ||News||

The first three runners from Denmark were able to stay with the pack before Maja Alm made a gap on the rest of the field in a fast and tight sprint relay race around the soggy Wroclaw Zoo. Their lead was 26 seconds over Switzerland, and Russia took third place, 40 seconds behind.

Helena Jansson, Sweden, about today’s race and The World Games: “I know I have done everything I could. It was really technical. The area was very green and I tried to stay calm and have a good plan for every control. Today was my day.”

Matthias Kyburz about the Middle distance race: “My race was pretty good. I started quite fast and I saw Gustav Bergman. I tried to catch him and was really running on my limit.” He also explains how much he enjoys running at The World Games. “It is not the same pressure as at the World Orienteering Championships.”


26/07/2017 || The World Games: Gold medals to Matthias Kyburz and Helena Jansson ||News||

The World Games Middle distance competitions were held in Trzebnica, Poland today. Matthias Kyburz, Switzerland, took his fourth World Games gold and Helena Jansson, Sweden, won what turned out to be a tight women’s race.

The men’s race was tight and Jerker Lysell won with a margin of two seconds. The Swede really enjoy The World Games: “I think it is a good way to make orienteering global”. Maja Alm is definitely the Sprint Queen of orienteering. She has won the sprint at the World Orienteering Championships three years in a row. Now she is also a World Games champion in sprint. Maja Alm, Denmark had an outstanding victory, with a winning margin of 33 seconds, in the Sprint race in the old town quarter of Wroclaw today. Jerker Lysell, Sweden won the men’s race by 2 seconds.
