Women’s long distance at the World Ski Orienteering Championships in Kazakhstan was a thriller to the end. Different forkings, many mistakes, and technically demanding courses made the race exciting for the spectators and the athletes.

The Russian team had only won one gold medal at the World Ski Orienteering Championships in Kazakhstan until now, but today they showed what they can do at their best. The result: two out of two gold medals to Russia.


08/03/2013 || Eivind Tonna new Ski Orienteering Commission chair ||News||

The IOF Council has today appointed Eivind Tonna (NOR) new chair of the IOF Ski Orienteering Commission. Tonna succeeds Markku Vauhkonen (FIN), who has decided to resign due to lack of time.


08/03/2013 || Deadline for federations’ replies approaching ||News||

Following the 2012 IOF General Assembly’s decision to remove the qualification races for the Middle and Long finals of the World Orienteering Championships (WOC) 2014 and onwards, the IOF Council has presented its proposal for how to handle the question of how many runners a nation can have on the starting line. The proposal was sent to the IOF member federations for hearing. The deadline for the federations’ replies is 15 March 2013, after which the proposal will be finalised and put on the Council’s table in late April.


07/03/2013 || World Ski Orienteering Championships: favourites Sweden win Mixed Sprint Relay ||News||

Today’s gold medals went to the strong favourites for victory, Sweden, in a very exciting and close-fought race, but it wasn’t easy! In difficult conditions with rain and wind, it was only on the last two legs that Sweden got in front. Finland took the silver medals and, to their great joy, it was bronze for Bulgaria.


06/03/2013 || World Ski Orienteering Championships: second gold for Arnesson ||News||

The Swedish athlete Peter Arnesson is clearly in his best form ever! In his 13th season of top-level ski orienteering, he today took the Middle distance title, after winning the Sprint yesterday and the European Championships Long distance last month. And again, this new victory was by an extremely impressive margin – just over 2 minutes. New women’s Middle distance champion is Russia’s Anastasia Kravchenko.

05/03/2013 || World Ski Orienteering Championships: Sweden double in Sprint ||News||

Both gold medals went to Sweden in the first race of the Championships, the Sprint, at Ridder in Kazakhstan today. Tove Alexandersson and Peter Arnesson won by 6.4 and 14.5 seconds respectively.
