The Nordic Orienteering Tour starting on Saturday, the final round of the 2012 World Cup, comprises five races in Norway, Sweden and Finland. The field includes 23 of the 30 highest-placed women in the IOF World Rankings, and 18 of the 30 highest-placed men.

An updated version of the Orienteering World Cup 2013 Special Rules has been published. The change in the Special Rules concerns the national quotas for Events 1-3 to be organized in New Zealand.


28/08/2012 || The World Games 2013 bulletin 2 to be published in September ||News||

The second bulletin on The World Games 2013 orienteering events will be issued at the end of September. The delay is caused by the need to have further consultations with the local Cali-organisers.


25/08/2012 || World MTBO Championships: four Long distance medals for Finland ||News||

Finnish riders won one gold, one silver and two bronze medals in today’s Long distance final, the last race of the Championships. Susanna Laurila, who brought the Finnish women’s team in to first place in the Relay yesterday, was the gold medal winner. The very experienced Ruslan Gritsan, Russia took the men’s gold.


24/08/2012 || World MTBO Championships Relay: double gold for Finland ||News||

It was gold all round for Finland’s MTBO teams today. The women’s team finished more than 2 minutes ahead of Switzerland, whilst the men had a narrower victory – 43 seconds faster than Russia. Silver medals went to Switzerland and Russia, and bronze to Slovakia and Austria.

Finland took three medals in today’s Middle distance race, including a gold medal for IOF World Rankings leader Samuli Saarela. Ursina Jäggi, Switzerland was the surprise winner of the women’s race by almost a minute.


21/08/2012 || World MTBO Championships: Sprint golds for Schaffner and Breitschadel ||News||

Christine Schaffner, Switzerland and Tobias Breitschädel, Austria are the first gold medallists at this year’s championships in Veszprém, Hungary. Schaffner won today’s Sprint by 22 seconds whilst Breitschädel’s victory was by just 2 seconds.

The IOF has now published the procedure to obtain approval for electronic punching systems. Only approved punching systems can be used in IOF events.


20/08/2012 || Hungary hosts World Mountain Bike Orienteering Championships ||News||

Mountain bike orienteers from 30 nations have gathered in Veszprém, a town 12 km NW of Lake Balaton in Hungary, for the World Mountain Bike Orienteering Championships (WMTBOC), with the first competition, the Long qualification, taking place today. 100 men and 72 women riders have taken part in today’s races.
