This year’s World Ski Orienteering Championships in Sweden are over. The Championships were a success when it comes to visibility: GPS tracking was used for the first time, the spectators could follow the routes of the athletes on the big screen at the arena, and ski orienteering was shown on TV in several countries.

World Ski Orienteering Championships in Sweden continue with long distance race on Saturday. Men’s 1 h 40 min long competition was a tough fight to the very last meters, when Andrey Grigoriev beat Staffan Tunis by merely two seconds.

Andrey Grigoryev and Polina Malchikova are rejoicing their victory in the first ever World Championships Mixed relay. They both consider this new relay format very important for the future of the sport.

The couple Hannele and Eivind Tonna has for years been among the best ski orienteers in the world, but now they are ready to finish their careers. “I have been talking about quitting sometimes, haven’t quit, but now the time has come to do it”, Eivind says.
