Gittus takes the gold medal in the WTOC paralympic class

The medals in the paralympic class were decided on the first day of the World Trail Orienteering Championships in Joensuu, Finland. The gold medal was won by Dave Gittus from Great Britain.

Nils Olav Andersson from Sweden took the silver. Both competitors achieved 13 points from 15 controls. Gittus was declared winner as a result of being 2,5 seconds faster on the two timed controls.

Another Swede, Lennart Wahlgren, was third with 13 points. The winner, Dave Gittus, previously competed in the World Trail Orienteering Championships in Sweden in 2004. There he was left without a medal in the personal competition but, in the paralympic class team competition, he was a member of the victorious British team. Last year, in Japan, Gittus was the IOF Event Adviser for the WTOC competitions.

The WTOC open class competition and paralympic class team competition medals will be decided on Wednesday in Joensuu.
