The teams have arrived in Rusutsu, Japan, and the Opening Ceremony will take place today. On Wednesday, the athletes begin their quest for world championship medals on sprint distance.

The sprint winning time is estimated to be 11 minutes both for women (3.3 km) and for men (3.7 km). The races are longer on Thursday: women will tackle 15 km in the tough and hilly Japanese terrain, and men 24 km.

Altogether 133 athletes representing 19 nationalities will be taking part in this year’s ski orienteering world championships. Russia has the largest number of competitors, with 6 men and 6 women in their team. The home country Japan has ten athletes competing, as do also Kazakhstan and Sweden. Finland and USA have sent four women and five men to take part.

Leading results from Japan will appear on the IOF website throughout the period of the Ski-WOC. For live results, please use the logo in the right-hand menu to get to the event homepage.
