World Orienteering Championships: Norwegian long distance

Posted on | August 12, 2010 | Category: News

Simone Niggli took her 17th World Orienteering Championships title on a technically demanding long distance course in Trondheim, Norway today. With this victory Niggli proved that she can win her Nordic competitors in any terrain, even on their home ground. Marianne Andersen, Norway, finished second and Emma Claesson, Sweden, third.

In the men’s class it was the host country that celebrated. Olav Lundanes won the tough race before his team mate Anders Nordberg. Thierry Gueorgiou took the bronze to France. This was former Junior World Champion Lundanes’ (22) first medal at the senior World Orienteering Championships.
