World Orienteering Championships: Exciting finish at middle distance

Posted on | August 14, 2010 | Category: News

Women’s middle distance race at Granåsen, Norway, stayed exciting to the very end, when sprint and long distance winner Simone Niggli made a mistake on the third last control. With the help of tracking, the audience could see that Minna Kauppi approached the same control flawlessly a couple of minutes later, and was able to run to the finish with a clear 20 seconds victory.

Marianne Andersen, Norway, made mistakes in the beginning, but was still able to secure her third medal from these championships.

Men’s race was more tight: Carl Waaler Kaas, Norway, was at the end seven seconds faster than Peter Öberg, Sweden. Bronze medal was shared by the two of the world’s best orienteers: Thierry Gueorgiou, France, and Daniel Hubmann, Switzerland.
