A record number of territories will be able to see broadcasts from this year’s World Orienteering Championships in Sweden. Broadcasts from the World Orienteering Championships to be held in Sweden from August 20 – 27, 2016, will be available to television viewers in 67 countries and territories, a record number. The productions include 17 hours of live coverage from 5 competitions during the championships week as well as daily and weekly highlights programs. The full live package will be transmitted to 5 countries in key orienteering markets in Scandinavia and Switzerland.

The International Orienteering Federation (IOF) has also signed rights agreements, for the broadcasting of highlights programs, with broadcasters in other key European markets. And through agreements signed with Broadreach Media and Eurosport, daily highlights programs will be shown via FOX Sports in Europe and Eurosport Asia Pacific to an additional 56 territories. This includes TV markets such as Italy, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and South Korea.

– The work done to improve the visibility of orienteering through high-quality TV broadcasts has really started to pay off, says Tom Hollowell IOF CEO. – The interest in showing orienteering competitions, both live and as highlights programs, has increased every year. Credit goes to those who have worked on adapting technologies like GPS-tracking and wireless cameras to tell the exciting story that each orienteering race provides, and to our organizers who have enhanced the spectator experience, providing a great frame for the pictures coming from the events.
