World MTBO Championships: four Long distance medals for Finland

Finnish riders won one gold, one silver and two bronze medals in today’s Long distance final, the last race of the Championships. Susanna Laurila, who brought the Finnish women’s team in to first place in the Relay yesterday, was the gold medal winner. The very experienced Ruslan Gritsan, Russia took the men’s gold.

Laurila had a 23-second victory over Russia’s Ksenia Chernykh, with Marika Hara, Finland taking the bronze with a ride that was a further 1.25 down in time. The margin in the men’s race was 16 seconds, the Finns Juho Saarinen and Samuel Pökälä taking the silver and bronze medals respectively.

In the Junior Championships Krystof Bogar, Czech Republic and Eeva-Liisa Hakala, Finland won their second individual gold medals, Bogar with the impressive margin of 4.19. They are both also the Middle distance Champions.
