World MTB Orienteering Championships relay

Mountain bike orienteers competed in the world championships relay today in Israel. Austria’s Michaela Gigon was the fastest in the women’s class and brought her team to victory: the first ever relay gold for Austria. Switzerland finished 30 seconds later on a second place, and the bronze went to Russia.

In the men’s class, Russia won gold after a great last leg from Anton Foliforov. Czech Republic finished second and Finland, the leader after the first leg, third. Last year’s winners Finland (women) and Denmark (men) both ended up on a fifth place.

1) Austria 2:25:11, 2) Switzerland 2:25:43, 3) Russia 2:27:17, 4) Czech Republic 2:27:56, 5) Finland 2:32:33, 6) Lithuania 2:33:33.

Men

1) Russia 2:04:17, 2) Czech Republic 2:05:22, 3) Finland 2:05:52, 4) Switzerland 2:08:11, 5) Denmark 2:09:24, 6) Austria 2:13:13.

The competitions continue with sprint distance on Friday.

Monday 10 August: Long qualification race

Tuesday 11 August: Middle distance

Wednesday 12 August: Rest day

Thursday 13 August: Relay

Friday 14 August: Sprint distance

Saturday 15 August: Long distance
