World Masters Orienteering Championships, Portugal: Two former world champions amongst sprint gold medallists

Posted on | July 2, 2008 | Category: News

Former world champions Sigurd Dæhli, Norway and Allan Mogensen, Denmark were among the winners in the sprint finals at the World Masters Orienteering Championships (WMOC) being held in Portugal this week. This is the first time that sprint races form a part of WMOC.

Dæhli, a member of the winning Norwegian relay team in 1981 and bronze medallist in the classic race in 1983, was today’s winner in M55, whilst Mogensen, classic race gold medallist in the USA in 1993, won M40.

The oldest competitors taking part this year are Elizabeth Brown, Great Britain in W90 and evergreen Erkki Luntamo, winner of several WMOC gold medals, in M90.

The long distance event qualification races and finals take place later in the week.
